This was reported  by AILA:

Several members report receiving a communication from USCIS that adjustment of status and naturalization interviews for April and May 2012 at Northeast Region USCIS Field Offices have been rescheduled due a train derailment. The AILA NBC Liaison Committee has learned that the derailment led to the destruction of a number of A Files while in transit from the National Benefits Center (NBC) to N.E. Region USCIS Field Offices.

Because documentation from applications filed with the Lockbox is scanned, USCIS is able to recreate the destroyed A Files.

For those individuals affected by the incident, USCIS is offering a one-year free membership for Triple Advantage Credit Monitoring from ConsumerInfo.com, Inc. an Experian company.
