Special Radio Show dedicated to the Memory Indian Rape victim and Victims of other Abuses on Monday December 31 2012 – at 11am to 1pm
As we are finishing year 2012, our law firm is saddened by the death of the gang-rape victim in India. First, we want offer all our condolences to the victim’s family and hope her death will not be in vain. As you all know, the Shah Peerally Law Group PC has since its inception been fighting for equality and abused victims’ rights. In the same spirit, we support the self-determination of the Indian people to make a real change. We know such cases first hand, because our law firm has handled a number of them where women, men and children were gang raped, tortured, abused, molested, and used as slave labor. All of them were immigrants. Immigrants who believe such behaviors are unfortunately the norm.
As many are organizing vigils on the occasion, we should not forget about the other victims. Let us reflect on the consequences of having any society which accepts certain abuses as normal against women, children and even men. Now we are seeing most Indians are against such violence and are calling on the death penalty. Others are calling on changes in the law. The Irony of the situation is that here in the United States we are seeing the reversal of long time laws which have protected women and even men from abuses. Violence Against Women Act, has failed to be re-authorized and thousands of women, children and men are going to be affected by it.
While many in the Western societies are pointing fingers at India, we are being hypocritical on the way we are planning to threat our own victims. As we are writing this article the laws protecting victims of domestic violence and other abuses are in jeopardy. Indeed, VAWA and the U-Visa have not been reauthorized.
In Memory of this horrible act, we are dedicating our law show to victims of rape and abuses.
