Immigration law has long been understood to be a federal matter. However, many states have found ways to look at things from their perspective to make the “lives of the undocumented” unbearable.  This is a new episode in the fight of States against what they call ‘illegal  immigration’.  While immigration is a federal matter, the issue of birth certificates are state issues and Texas has successfully found a way to prevent children of “undocumented individuals” from obtaining a rightful proof of US citizenship.

The part which is very disturbing is that a federal court sided with Texas on the matter.  The question is whether the court decision will encourage other States to follow the same path.  We hope that the federal government will intervene and give those poor children what is rightfully theirs: Their US citizenship!
